  • Description:
    • JEA received a permit this month to begin a $4.3 million renovation of its Westside Service Center at 6727 Broadway Avenue.

Jacksonville-based Auld & White Constructors LLC is performing the renovation, which will focus on making the facility more storm resilient, upgrading the office space, replacing some of the 1969-era infrastructure, adding a gym, making bathrooms wheelchair accessible and more, Auld & White Business Development Associate Lauren Register told the Business Journal.

One of the priorities for the renovation was allowing it to be used as an emergency response base for linemen. Improvements to the kitchen, the addition of charging lockers for laptops and other devices and building enhancements for storm resiliency were meant to ensure linemen can operate 24-hours a day from the facility during storm scenarios.

Office upgrades include replacing the HVAC system, allowing more natural light into the office area by including glass offices around the perimeter of the office space and creating partitioned work areas in the center of the office space.

Other upgrades simply fix problems created by the 50-year-old infrastructure. For example, the facility has experienced sewer back-ups, so the water, waste and vent lines are being replaced.
Jacksonville-based Auld & White Constructors LLC is the contractor for the $4 million project at JEA’s 38,929-square-foot center.
